Since our founding, Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains (NAJC) has served as the address for Jewish chaplaincy expertise. We provide education, inspiration, and community for practicing chaplains around the world, as well as a board certification that acts as a trusted credential, affirming chaplains’ ability to provide expert spiritual care across a wide range of complex institutional settings.
With our new website, the journey toward certification has become more transparent, more accessible, and more approachable than ever.
Board Certification Simplified
Certification through NAJC is designed to evaluate candidates’ education, clinical training, professional experience, and competencies. It’s a complex, multi-step process that we’ve tried to make as accessible as possible with detailed handbooks and one-on-one guidance wherever possible.
Our new website now provides you with everything you need to navigate the process via our updated Certification page.
An intuitive sidebar navigation and internal links help you find answers to your specific questions easily and efficiently. The page also includes a collection of updated and newly-designed resources, including downloadable versions of the Certification Handbook & Appendices, an Application Checklist, and an interactive application form that you can fill out online and download for easy submission.
Board certification is a rigorous process—it is intended to be. But we are a community first, and we hope our new site will help those exploring certification feel connected and supported every step of the way.
Caring for One Another
NAJC provides structure, standards, and support for Jewish chaplains, but make no mistake: your work is our purpose.
We look forward to serving you more effectively, because the world needs thoughtful, compassionate spiritual care now more than ever; and as chaplains, we will always need each other.
